Stress is defined as a mental and emotional strain brought about by strong demands of the circumstance. This Covid-19 crisis has clearly brought a lot of stress into our daily lives. It has changed our routine and disrupted our way of life. To help you manage stress brought about by this crisis, here are some things that you can do:

1. Think of the good things you can do now, which you cannot do if you are not required to stay at home. Maybe clean the areas in your room that you seldom clean, talk with family members, organize your closet, rearrange the living room, set up a work from home space, etc. These are just a few things that you can do while at home. This will keep you from being bored too.

2. Choose what to read or watch. It may be essential to be updated with the latest news but reading bad news could also affect your mental health. As soon as you know the directives of the government, shift to reading good news, good books or watching good movies.

3. Create a new hobby. Change is inevitable in this time of crisis so better flow with it. While you stay at home, think of creating a new hobby. Sewing, gardening, woodwork, cooking, you name it. Here is a few list of hobbies you can start developing.

4. Plan for the future. There may be lots of uncertainties happening now but it is not bad to anticipate the changes and plan for it. Think: what do you think will change in the society after the pandemic? Perhaps, people will hire more virtual assistants in the future? Or maybe people will be using more skilled professionals who are tech-savvy and so you need to up skill too.

5. Bring out something new. You probably heard of the term “new normal”. Maybe it’s time to shift to something new: new mindset, new way of life, new way of relating to people, new routine, new activities. One example is a work from home set-up which we need to get used to. Change is not bad as long as you change for the better and this crisis has somehow brought us to that place.

This Covid 19 pandemic may be scary and worrying but there are also good things coming out of it. Thinking about these good things will be the first step to avoiding stress. Then follow the tips above and you will surely find yourself in a less stressful condition.
